Scion of Giai'Shar
The people of Giai'Shar live a harsh, physical life. The land they live in constantly pushes and tests them, ensuring they keep strong and alert, and they have eschewed most of the comforts of civilization to keep to their tribal societies. Some members of the tribe push themselves further, deliberately going into the wilderness to test themselves, and engage in competitive games and challenges to hone themselves further. These are the Scions of Giai'Shar, the people of the land. The goal of the Scions is perfection of form. They train and test themselves, constantly seeking to improve their form. These are the master hunters, the fastest runners, the strongest swimmers.
During their trials, the Scions become attuned to the harmony of nature. Many go across the land, finding in the wilds kindred spirits among the animals. From these meetings, the Scion can develop a spiritual bond with the animals, creating companions which can exist side by side with the Scion. Not all Scions take animal companions, but many do.
Harmony With Self
- Type: Training
The character chooses (Growth) Skills from the following list: Acrobatics, Athletics, Climb, Endurance, Ride, Swim, and Thrown. Each Skill chosen gains a +3 die bonus on all rolls, and if used in Active Defence provides a +3 bonus.
Harmony With Nature
- Type: Training
The character chooses (Growth) Skills from the following list: Animal Ken, Awareness, Herbalist, Pole, Search, Stealth, and Survival. Each Skill chosen gains a +3 die bonus on all rolls, and if used in Active Defence provides a +3 bonus.
- Type: Ritual
The character can go into the wilderness and find an animal companion. Doing so requires finding an animal suitable to be a companion, which is a Mental + Survival roll. The Difficulty of the roll is how many Exceptional Traits the character wishes the animal will have, and takes (Difficulty) Hours. The animal can not have more than (Might) Exceptional Traits. The animal has the traits of a normal animal of the desired type, modified by the Exceptional Traits. An animal companion can be trained using the Animal Ken Skill and gains one additional Exceptional Trait each time the character gains a level of Growth.
Bonding with the animal requires 2 Essence and a (Spiritual + Animal Ken) D (Animal's Resolve) roll. If successful, the animal becomes a loyal companion to the Scion, and will follow and remain with the Scion. A Scion can bond with more than one animal, and the animals will not harm one another once bound. A Scion can never have more than (Might) animal companions. It is still a wild animal however, and will not treat others as it does the Scion, though it will not attack others without provocation. The animals are controlled by the Scion's player.
