Republic Of Aki (Nation)
The Republic of Aki is a new nation in the world of Kith Kanaan. Brought forth into the boiling clouds and storms of the Maelstrom, the Republic covers the majority of the large island that has sprung forth from the otherwise forbidden waters. Off of the east shore of Kith Kanaan proper, the Republic is a bubble nation, a rumour to most and home to many peoples who came from the Plane of Nimby, bringing their faith, manners, and teachings back to the origin plane of the Aspects of Fukumi.
As a Nation, the Republic of Aki balances the wish for peace and trade with the readiness and respect of war and death. The Capitol City, Higashi Aoi, is a large port city built around not only the docks, but also defensibility. This is the seat of power of the Republic, home to not only the main Shrine to the Aspects of Fukumi, lesser shrines to the Avatar of Judgement and the Earth Dragon Melanie, but also of Kyozen, the ruling palace of the Council of Elders. It is within Kyozen that the representatives of the various member cities and people can be heard and decide policy based on the good of the people, and the good of the Nation as a whole. Meetings are watched over with a combination of the most wise of the Lii, Yukikaze, Mon'Darr, Daisuke, and the Negru Morte.
Each of the member cities of the Republic is tied together with a responsibility for the betterment of the Nation, and the will to improve the lives of the Nation as a whole. Improvements on both the Economic, Spiritual, and Technological front are widely accepted, and new technology is something that brings a challenge to the cities to improve upon and make it their own. The Mon'Darr led cities specifically embrace such advancement and are known for being able to puzzle out even the advanced level of technology and magic floating around Kith Kanaan.
As part of the mixture of both unique and collective culture, all of the member races speak a common tongue (Trade), in addition to their own. The money system of the Republic is based upon The Tail, minted from copper and stamped with the Seal of Aki on one side and a fox's tail on the other. The Paw is likewise, except minted from silver and stamped with a fox's paw. The most precious of their coins is the Sakuya, which is made from gold and stamped with a cherry blossom. Due to this, trade between the various cities is commonplace, with specialization featuring in the various cities for the quality of specific goods, allowing rapid progress to be made. This not only benefits the Republic as a whole, but also keeps the merchants sharp in their trade.
A paved road system on the island is one of it's defining features, providing a way for each of the cities to get to each other, the various farm homesteads to enjoy access to city benefits, and giving a strong sense of togetherness. Every homestead, farm, or city can count on there being a way to Higashi Aoi.
(Republic of Aki in the Age of Kith Kanaan)
The Republic of Aki is built around personal freedom while allowing contribution and growth of the Nation as a whole. Each member city is greatly encouraged to develop a specialty to stand out; this could be as simple as beautifully blown glass statuettes to a breath taking view and exotic cooking. Respect is shown to the working individual, toiling in order to share their abilities with others, and able to use the earnings from that to supply that which they cannot.
Governance is done through representatives, with each major city of the nation having two, and all minor cities having one. A city is considered ready for representation when they have grown self sufficient on their talents and location, and having shown a willingness to help the Republic as a whole. Smaller towns are more then welcome to bring matters up to the Senate if they cannot make any headway with a more local, nearby governance. Such matters if trivial, oftentimes involve a loss of face of the nearby governance for being unable to help their fellow man.
Spirituality is a personal matter, with each Capital having its own main shrine and their own way of doing things, as the basic tenants of honor, self-discipline, personal responsibility, and an adherence to the Aspects of Fukumi are fairly universal -- regardless of how they are celebrated. The shrines serve a second purpose, each one linked to the others to allow for people to get to other cities quickly; while large goods must rely on caravans, people and small items get to enjoy this long standing blessing of Fukumi Kyldeer.
As the Daisuke had caravans long before the advent of the idea of the Bronze Age, the Republic's Road System is the most developed, their coinage standard, and their services for delivery reliable. Added to this is the advent of the Airship, an invention brought forth as a blessing from the Avatar of Judgement. This new found ability to sail through the clouds has opened up a wider trading area then the Daisuke could have imagined before, staffed with Mon'Darr engineers and Daisuke tradesmen. For larger or heavier goods, the port is more the capable of supporting both a trading and a fishing fleet, these are more commonly seen then the expensive sky-faring vessels, and a favorite of the Lii people.
The Daisuke are fennec-fox like humanoids that formed the city of Aki long ago. They claim to be the first race on Nimby, and some stories back this claim up. Masters of Horses since first meeting the Aspects of Fukumi, they have brought trade as far and wide as they can, always seeking out new things and ways to further themselves by being in the right place, with the right thing, at the right time. All Daisuke, even the less spiritual ones, follow the Aspect of Trade in some form or another, as the tribe's ties with the Goddess Kyldeer runs long and deep. They are supernaturally gifted with a quick wit, a silver tongue, and their horse companions. They were one of the first tribes to ready several clans willing to bring their mastery of trade and their devotion to the Aspects to the Plane of Kith Kanaan.
Mon'Darr are rough and tumble warrior-monks from the south-eastern forests and shorelines. Wolf-like humanoids, they follow a more tribal tradition of coming of age, of strength and glory. They have however, discovered that taming metals can be just as dangerous as any hunt, and they have since developed a fascination with the concept of uses steam with metal for hardening, softening, and propelling it. Since the Aspects of Fukumi and the Pantheon of Lii have intermingled, they have taken up enjoying some of the Orders offered by the Earth Dragon, Melanie.
Gifted with a Hunting Companion at adulthood, as well as gifts to help them survive in the hunts, they take care of much game hunting, and are known not only for the metalworking but also their sense in various meats and spices. In this new age of discovery, and the vast amounts of magic available to them, Mon'Darr have also gone off to study magic and machines, putting them on the edge of not only the latest in magical devices and potions, but also of such wonders of the New World such as Airships. Their infatuation with the skyfaring vessels has led several to pool together to attempt to purchase one to reverse engineer.
The Yukikaze are a long-lived race of white fox-like humanoids, who hail from the chill mountains of of Northern Nimby. Now on Kith Kanaan, they are seen close to the eastern side of the Republic's Island, where the cold sea wind blows, or near the mountain peak that juts from the southwest of the island, where the snow topped peak matches their fur. Following the Aspect of War, they seek to study both creation and destruction from afar. Their monk-like living and generally peaceful ways are deceiving, as some of the best military minds in all of The Republic can be found in their ranks, their connection with the Goddess of War and Life giving them uncanny insight to battle, as well as what it means to take a life.
Specialty herbs are grown in the frozen gardens, and the Yukikaze can normally be found in small groups among the guards of the Republic, as both mentors and commanders. With their long lifespans they have also taken to the new magical-rich environment, seeking to study magic as a controllable force, rather them merely for effects. They are however, best known for their ability with herbs, poultices, and medicine, one of the many facets of war that they study.
The mortal Lii tribes are a common sight in any of the cities of The Republic, finding new ways to improve upon themselves and learn of the world. While not intrinsically gifted, their curiosity and willingness to try new things have made them an important part in the Republic.
Warrior Monks that follow the Aspect of Death, the mysterious bat-like humanoids are seen as elite guards or the most devote of the follows of Fukumi Kyldeer. Truley however, they are both at the same time. Sometimes referred to as The Paladins of Death, they roam throughout the island, on the trade ships and airships, following their holy mandates. They guard those that deserve it, and bring people's stories to an end when it has been determined to be. A member of The Republic can often count on traveling with one of these Paladins as a sign of fortune; those in their shadow can share the hospitality they are granted throughout the Republic to a certain degree. Mostly seen in pairs, the Paladins tend to either wear the robes of their faith, or concealing clothing. In the new age, Solo Negru Morte are becoming a more common sight, usually as holy pilgrims, elite guards, or scouts for deep into the lands of Kith Kanaan. Any large excursion off of the island will have at least a pair on board, whether known or not, in case they must act to preserve the borders of the Republic from being found.
The most devout of the Negru Morte, and those with the darkest of reputations are the Skyggan Tann, who wear their own skulls as masks when doing their sacred duty. It is said they are the guardians against great evil, the protectors of the Aspects most sacred site: Shadow Keep. The are very much a supernatural race, and follow their holy code from the oldest and wisest, to the youngest.
While it is unknown where their main city lies, Shadow Keep appears to be where they refer to collectively as a place of origin.
Each Region of the Republic has its dominant people, although they have very little trouble mingling with others for the sake of development. The City of Higashi Aoi is one of the most diverse cities in the Republic, with representatives from almost every tribe from the Aspects, and every tribe of the Lii in attendance, although it is primarily considered to be the home for the Daisuke.
Mixed marriages are uncommon, but for the concept of True Love, or a merging of smaller villages for political reasons are the most common reasons for it to happen. When the different supernatural races do not share their abilities in concert, this has led to several interesting stories, from the short-lived Yukikaze and her feline companion who went to seek all they could learn in their limited time on this plane, to the Mon'Darr with the silver tongue who was a favorite prankster and bard.
The Republic of Aki is split into several large regions, primarily based geographically as well as by its 'main' tribe. The North West, the Center, the South East, and the Eastern Edge. They are divided primarily through culture, as all members of the Republic do patrols and help keep the Republic as a whole defended.
On any road between any two cities there are usually two patrols of 'locals' to those cities. The main forces of Aki runs longer patrols supported by the Republic to help maintain safety and security. If a particular region falls under attack, the Republic moves to defend it both using the roads and the Shrines; War is one of the Aspects of Fukumi. They are always ready.
The basic community structure throughout the Republic is the Family. The Daisuke remain close to their families, and inter-family relations and politics is a large deal to them. Strong families are respected for getting where they are, and in turn they have a responsibility to the community to further other families. The Yukikaze social unit is the Temple, where their family is the group, sometimes related and sometimes not, that studies, worships, and trains together. The Mon'Darr are tightly woven communities of families. The only exception is the Negru Morte, whose basic unit is the Brotherhood -- two individuals that have trained together and are combat partners. Contrary to the name it does not have to be two males, or even a male in the pairing at all.
Trade is the lifeline of The Republic. They trade many different goods; thriving off of not only internal trade but also with the lands in Kith Kanaan through both sea going ships and the newer Airships. Primarily they export Salt, Spices, Food Additives, Ways to Preserve Food non-magically, artistic works, and some of the Mon'Darr's metal craftsmanship. They import metals, technology, books, artwork, varied foods, and coin. When out in the greater lands of Kith Kanaan however, the Daisuke's abilities to match items with locations and buys mean that they often times trade back and forth around Kith Kanaan, keeping their own supplies as exotics or rare items for trade, and returning with what they can earn.
An unspoken of export is of course, adventurers. Brave and usually young souls head out from The Republic to seek their fortune, to work alongside the forces of the Avatar of Justice, and to spread the word of their faith. It is well known that this is the plane that the Aspects first traveled from, and the stories sent down through the texts of the misguided and overly powerful Empowered that live on this Plane.
Arts are a part of any city wishing to prove its mettle through the ages. The Republic of Aki is no different, and likes to foster the various different arts. In the north, ink is put to scroll to capture nature and life alike. The Daisuke favor sculpture, a new trade they picked up with the advent of stronger tools. The Mon'Darr carve wood, and build furniture and artistic but useful items. The Negru Morte work jewelry, as noted by their ornamentation. All crafts are of interest, especially foreign ones as they attempt to make it their own and do better then the originals. The Yukikaze and the Mon'Darr have been getting together to share their talents in order to push the integration of art in new technology, for even a useful tool is of little value if the time and care is not spent in order to make it look as nice as it functions.
The Republic of Aki is formed on the basic principles of the Aspect of Fukumi, as well as the basic tenants of improvement of culture, cultural domination, and enlightenment. They draw some influence from their Lii counterparts, but all other religious influences are shunned as following half-truths, lies, and 'Empowered'... beings with god-like power but without the knowledge to use it properly, or simply squandering it.
A single sign of warning is ingrained into the Republic of Aki and its member cities: There is more to the world then meets the eye, and somewhere there may even be something that can rival a god in power. Faith is the way to hold everything together, and preparedness means not only creating a culture that can dwarf all others and last for a million years, but also the strength of mind and focus of body so that each individual builds a strong nation. They may very well need to defend their whole existance.
The only God that has respect outside of the Aspects and the Earth Dragon (as those in Aki refer to the Goddess Melanie) is the Avatar of Justice, the Goddess Zhokora. She is a judge outside of their beliefs that can give powerful advice to be tempered by their own teachings.
Culturally, the Republic of Aki embraces other regions, taking what works best for them and discarding that which does not mesh with their views. The other people are misguided perhaps, or yet to see the light; this does not mean their art is not well done or their dances cannot be used... embracing, improving, and seeking to dominate through trade and culture is the Aki way.
Enlightenment comes from within the self, and is expressed through art, trade, craft, and toil. Beginning from within and moving without builds a strong individual, and a strong nation is built from strong individuals. Everyone that works within their realm of ability is doing well in the eyes of the Nation, be it creating beautiful sculptures of glass or a harvest that dwarfs all previous harvests of the field. The truth lies in the Balance of Aspects of Fukumi, Grounded by the Earth Dragon, and Tempered by the Aspect of Justice.
Embrace, Extend, and Guide new discoveries made by the non-faithful. It is the place of the People to improve life for all, both the People, the Republic, and the very Earth all is based upon. It is the natural order that Life leads to Death and Leads to rebirth, any destruction is to be made with an eye to ensuring rebirth will come of it; destruction for its own sake is unacceptable.
The Philosophy of Trading: Questionable goods are never to be resold in the same city as purchase. Be honest in all your dealings, deal fairly but shrewdly in all things. Never take advantage of a follower of the Aspects, respect the full value of the Republics Coins, but wary of all others by weight. Know what you can sell openly in an area, and know what you can not; know where it is such items can be traded without risking your business or life.
Remember Your Origin
The People of The Republic were given a chance to prove themselves in the plane where the Aspects first traveled from, rife with fighting, misguided souls, and Empowered that Force without Guiding. Do not forget the sweeping Plains of Aki, the Frosty Mountains of the Yukikaze, the dense forests of the Mon'Darr, the caverns of the Negru Morte, for it is here you represent them to the foreign and maligned people of Kith Kanaan.
Be Mindful of Outsiders
Those outside of the Aspects, or who do not wish to seek enlightenment in their own forms are Outsiders. Without a strong belief they are nothing. Take advantage of their folly when you can, but never endanger yourself or your family by doing so. Learn and know the laws of the Outsiders, know where it is safe to trade, where it can be made safe to trade, and where you cannot trade. Be mindful to protect your Home and Family in The Republic; it is not a place for outsiders that have not seen the light.
Be Peaceful, Practice for War
The Aspects are in Balance, held solid by the Earth Dragon, and under the temperament of Justice. While a peaceful people, all of the Republic must remember that with peace, comes the eventuality of war. Deal with disputes fairly, be prepared to defend yourself, and know that Elders, Senators, and the Council will hear a plea for a review of Justice.
Trade Aids Strength, But Remember the Self
Trading builds strength by combining the talents of many peoples to allow all to accel in a particular field. Remember that that trade is nothing without People mindful of themselves, seeking to improve their own self and their craft, for trade cannot exist without this growth.
Respect Worthy Empowered
This plane of Kith Kanaan is home to many old, powerful, and often misguided Empowered that use their followers to further their own goals instead of seeking balance and enlightenment inside and out. Even so, respect is to be shown to the Celestial Courts, for their goal was worthy before tarnished through time and stasis. Respect Arion, although know that the other Empowered by his side will endlessly squabble.
The Republic Exists to Grow and Prosper, stealing from itself or charging itself unfair prices to better the minority will not do.
Do not endanger the main roads or ports, all must be able to come home.
Do not follow the siren song of the Empowered, no matter how seductive.
In the plane of Kith Kanaan, be mindful of the many people, do not mistake that one mannerism will fit all cultures, or that all cultures will accept other cultures.
Do not deal with one who calls them self a Joshuite. They seek to disrupt the cycle. Beware.
Do not allow the way to enlightenment to blind you from your surroundings, others will use this to turn you away from the true path.
The Republic of Aki is pushing Science in a number of areas. The Daisuke in particular excel at languages and math, to better their trade. The Yukikaze work the science of war, printing and archiving. The Yukikaze scribes are meticulous and work hard to find ways to preserve what they discover. The Mon'Darr push the boundaries of metallurgy, working within the new found technology of Kith Kanaan to work harder metals, picking up the Lii order of Materials, and given samples of metal that exceed all other metals found.
Developing, the Daisuke are pushing civil engineering, building larger, sturdier, and out of more interesting materials. The Yukikaze are working with their herbs for both better pigments, and alchemy, and the Mon'Darr not only have been working the abilities of steam in a pressure-proof container, but have seen firsthand, the wonders of airships and the melding of craft and magic.
List a number of skills that are common among the nation. These skills should give a feel of the 'typical' members of the nation.
What superstitions or beliefs does the nation have? True or otherwise.
The Aspects of Fukumi are the primary pantheon of The Republic of Aki. While respect is still given to the Earth Dragon and the Avatar of Justice, neither has sway in the realm of Kith Kanaan.

Geography and Climate
The Republic of Aki is based on an island in the maelstrom, protected from the vast storms by The Aspects of Fukumi, and given to a bubble existence. As such it prospers internally, with the main contact from the outside world done only through trade and those given in to be adventurers. The island is roughly double the size of modern day Japan, with a similar climate.
The Republic's National Language is Trade. A combination of Anaithan and Arin is spoken by the various people, albeit with a dialect unfamiliar with the rest of Kith Kanaan.
