Talk:Running a Business

  • Example: You don't have to use these rules to set up a business, but you can. Doing it this way makes the business a benefit you can use later to give additional dice to Purchase/Income rolls.
A business will have two stats: Business Potency and Business Size. In rules-terms, the former is how many extra dice you get when you use the business to help a roll and the latter is how many times you can use it in a month. So, P3 S2 means twice a month you can use the business to add three dice to a Purchase/Income roll.
Note: Rolling to upgrade (but not set up) a business is done instead of your monthly income roll. You only get to do one or the other each month.
The roll is a Results Roll. What's that mean? It means you decide the Difficulty (but you can't pick a difficulty higher than your Growth +3). A higher Difficulty means you roll fewer dice, but if you succeed in your roll you add your successes AND the Difficulty you chose in order to determine the Potency of your roll. You use Mental for the roll and a skill (Business is best, but you can use others). You get to add most bonuses as normal, though you can't spend essence on this roll.
Example: You choose a Difficulty 2. You roll Mental (4)+Business (3)!2. That's 5 dice. Say you get one success. Add your Difficulty to that, and you get a Potency of 3 for your roll.
Note: If you use a skill other than Business, you divide this number in half before the next step, rounding down. This is why it's best to use the Business skill.
Also, this is a Resource Roll. The initial Cost is 5+ the Difficulty you chose (so total of 7)and it's reduced by your successes to a minimum of one-third the initial Cost. In this case, it would cost 6 Resources as you only got one success. At best, it would still cost 3 Resources.
Okay, you have your 3. Now what? Well, you get to split that between Business Potency and Business Size. 2 and 1? 1 and 2? That's up to you. A 0 in anything isn't very helpful, naturally.
    Aaaand you're done.
