Rath Sliabh Dorca

Ruler: Rose Thorn, Arch Druid of the Rath
Religion: Arin (Maya and Tsunami Specific)

Rath Sliabh Dorca is a small region nestled between Anaitha and the Shire. The region consists of a small keep, a few villages, and a druid’s grove. Rath Sliabh Dorca was independent until almost ten years ago, when the arch-druid, Kitsu-Ka, swore fealty to the Empress of Anaitha, thus drawing the region into Anaitha’s control and protection. The current arch-druid, Rose Thorn, is the daughter of Kitsu-Ka, and currently protects the region. Rath acts as the only place where people may engage in trade with Anaitha, as the region exists outside of the Anaithan Woods, and the druids of Rath are able to freely pass through the Woods without harm.

Religion

The druids of Rath Sliabh Dorca worship Maya and Tsunami as Mother Earth and Father Sea. Recently, with the ascension of Murrimi as the child of Maya and Tsunami, the druids of Rath have added her to their worship, placing her as Daughter Sky. The druids worship nature and the turning of the seasons, and pay respect to the spirits of earth, wind, and sea. Their reverence of nature keeps them in good standing with the people of Anaitha, though the difference in the two faiths leaves some friction. The druids pay respect to the Empress of Anaitha, accepting her as one of the most powerful of the spirits of nature, but do not accept her as a goddess. The Empress accepts this. The druids accept that other pantheons exist, but do not worship nor revere the gods of any pantheon, including the Arin Faith. They revere only Maya and Tsunami, and their daughter Murrimi.

Prejudices

The people of Rath Sliabh Dorca are simple farmers and turn to the druids for guidance and wisdom. Outsiders are met with friendship, but the perceptive notice that nobody from the outside is truly welcome. Outsiders are just that – outsiders, and while the rules of hospitality apply, it is expected that once a visitor is finished with the reason they are in Rath, they will move on.

Inspiration

Rath is similar to Celtic Wales, controlled by the druids. The druids are the priests and rulers of the region, providing wisdom and guidance to the peasantry of the region. Beyond this, however, Rath is in line with the typical middle age fantasy setting.

Common Names

A child uses the word ‘ap <father’s name>’ if male, or ‘ap <mother’s name>’ of a woman. In some cases, the name is simply changed, replacing the first letter with a ‘P’, such that ‘Parry’ is ‘son of Harry’ or ‘Powell’ is ‘son of Howell’.
