Concentration
From FFa2Wiki
Psionics and Sorcery can both produce effects which have a duration of Concentration. While the character is able to keep focus on the effects, they remain active.
Concentration does not require total focus by the character, or even partial focus. The character has dedicated a small part of their awareness to the fact that they are keeping an effect in place. It is akin to trying to count to ten in your head repeatedly while performing other tasks.
A character can concentrate comfortably upon a total combination of Spells and Gifts equal to their Mental Attribute. For each additional Gift or Spell beyond this limit, the character suffers a +1 Difficulty on all rolls.
Breaking Concentration
A character may be forced to make a Concentration Roll. This is a Mental + Meditation roll, with the Difficulty depending on what event has triggered the roll.
- Being knocked out automatically causes the character to fail a Concentration Roll.
- A Physical or Social Attack made to break concentration causes a roll with a Difficulty equal to the successes of the attack.
- Effects from outside sources, such as poison, extremes of temperature, or heavy exertion (such as from running). The Difficulty of an Athletics roll, the Wounds from Poison, Environmental Damage, Falling, and other such effects sets the Difficulty of the Concentration Roll.
If the roll is failed, all Spells or Gifts being kept active by Concentration are negated immediately.
Note: Gifts which are taken as 'permanent' are not affected by broken concentration and do not count to how many gifts or spells you have up.
