The casting time of a spell is determined by taking the highest value of all the Aspects of a spell, plus one for each additional Aspect used. This determines the numerical value for the casting time.

Example: A spell with an Aspect of 3, 2, and 4 will have a casting time of 6 (4 + 1 + 1).

Adjusting Casting Time

The unit of time involved for casting is determined by the Mastery of the spell itself, and the Form of the spell, using the table below. A character can adjust the casting time for a spell. Increasing the casting time lowers the amount of Essence the spell costs, while lowering the casting time increases the Difficulty of the spell. The minimum casting time of a spell is '1'.

Increasing Casting Time
By increasing the casting time by the spell's starting Mastery, the caster may lower the Essence Cost of the spell by their Spiritual Attribute. This can only be done a number of times equal to the caster's Mastery in the Form of magic being used.

Decreasing Casting Time
Sometimes it is important to get a spell off quickly, with little finesse. To do so, the caster increases the Difficulty of the spell by the spell's starting Mastery, decreasing the casting time by their Spiritual Attribute. This can be done a number of times equal to the caster's Mastery in the Form of magic being used.
