HISTORY

Baen was born to two members of the Blackwatch of Aregon, Cathbad na Guragach and his mate Moira. Baen was their only son and their pride and joy. but his memories of them are faint and fragmented at best, for he was only six years of age when they were lost to him, Cathbad cut down in the heat of battle, and Moira follwoing soon after as she tried to protect his body so it could be recovered. It was decided that the now Orphaned Baen would stay witht eh Blackwatch though and grow to become one of them, in trubute tot he sacrifice of his parents. So he suddenly went from a pair of parents to hundreds.

Baen fell into the role of a warrior with a natural flair and became a full warrior with his first blood in battle when he was only 11. Life was tough for the wandering clan as they sought out a new home, and Baen felt great joy when they came to the shire and were granted some land by the Fairgrounds to be able to build themselves homes. When the winds of politics changed and the Blackwatch were forced to leave again, he felt confused and sad and bitter about losing his new home and served his duty in Aranous with much less relish. Then while the Blackwatch were parting ways and belieivng that his girlfreind was killed, Baen decided to forge his own path in life and went off on his own as a soldier of fortune.

But he was still closer to a boy than a man. Rumors had spread about the Blackwatch from the Shire, and news of their service in Aranous further damned them in some people's eyes as Baen found out the hard way. He became desperate and resorted to petty theft for mere survival. He tried to sell his services as a mercanry where he could, but it took some time before he finally foudn a company willing to take him. When he finally did, he fought like a man possessed and distinguished himself in many battles. It was in that part of his life that he met Talia.

Talia DeSolis was a female cougar from Siren's Cove who had become a Mercenary in search of adventure. She was as deadly with a glaive as with a bow and her sweet charms quickly won Baen's heart. They were wed and quite happy together, though remembering how he lost his parents, Baen insisted they fight seperately in battle. During a castle seige, Talia's unit was sent off to try to make a surprise attack from another side of the castle, but they ended up running into a company of reinforcements where were trying to make their way to the castle as well. The unit, and Talia, were all slaughtered and their bodies hidden to try to prevent knowledge that reinforcements had come. But even with the reiforcements, the castle finally fell, but during the last days of it, Baen had become frantic with worry. Search parties were sent out for those missing in action, the bodies were found, and Baen was shattered.

He decided he had enough of the mercenary life and used the gold he had saved to buy a small farm. After a while, he managed to bury his pain in those plants and started courting the daughter of another farmer in the area, Elainea. Her father was skeptical at first, but evntually agreed to give his daughter to Baen for five goats and two cows. Baen and Elainea were wed and happy together for several years. During that time, she bore him two children, a girl named Kayla, and a son named Finn.

Peace was not to be for long though. One day a Mercenary company led by a cruel tiger named Kahn came to the farm looking for supplies. Elainea was repeatedly raped and beaten to death. The children were slaughtered for sport, and Baen was beaten and taken captive as a slave to entertain the company. He was starved and beaten and humiliated, but determined that he would survive. Finally he was offered a chance to join the comapny, or forfit his life. He agreed and became one of Khan's Raiders.

Biding his time until he could finally have vengence for his wife and children. He did as he was told and slowly they became more trustful of him. Their attention no longer ever present, Baen bided his time, then made a break for it. The Mercenaries gave chase, but he was quick and growing up as a nomad had given him the advantage in the wilderness. He was free. He followed the band for a while, sniping when he could, helping those who were left for dead in their wake, but eventually, he decided he needed to improve himself before facing them again. But to do that he needed money. And he only knew of one skill that would earn it for him. Baen became a Mercenary again.

Baen movd back to the battlefields that seemed to dominate his life with a new zeal, seeing the deaths of his family in the faces of his foes. It was several years later that his heart lept as he recognised the banners of the soldiers they had been paid to battle. Khan's Raiders! Baen fought like a man possessed, piling bodies around him until he could not physically stand any longer. Khan's Raiders were broken and retreated and Baen felt his vengence finally fufilled.

Deciding it was time to retire, Baen wanted to go someplace he didn't have memories of battle nad blood. But for a mercernary who's always travelling, that's hard to find. But he remembered the Shire where he once had a home, for a short while at least, and he made his way there.

Penniless when he finalyl arrived, he took up residence in an abandoned shack in the forest near the Cemetary, heedless of the rumors of ghosts that haunted the area. He began cutting wood to earn some coin, and then joined the Guardians as well. He met Lady Kaelyn and befriended her, so when there became an opening for a Master Forrester for Terrabrae Keep, he graciaously accepted and moved onto Terrabrae's lands.

Fate wasn't finished with him though, and Khan's Raiders ended up on the Shirelands and when Kahn found out Baen was there, he demanded blood. With the help of Amanda Dalton and Zhokora, Baen freed the prisoners being held by the Raiders and killed Khan. But the raiders had stolen a potion one of the survivors used on Khan's body, which raised him again as undead. They attacked the shire once more, and Baen fought them back with the other defenders of the Shire, and using Deathbane, the sword crafted for him by the Lady Arkaine to defeat Undead, Baen destroyed Khan once and for all, his remains burning to ash and scattered into the wind.

Baen lives now just as Master Forester of Terrabrae Keep, having quit the Guardians after a falling out with one of the nobles of Argus.
