Sorcery Cheat Sheet

Step 1

  • RP/Appearance
    • Determine the spell's visual effect. How do you want it to look?
    • Determine the spell's mechanical effect. What do you want it to do?

Step 2

  • Mechanics
    • Determine Form most appropriate for the spell that you have access to.
      • NOTE: If you have only one form of sorcery you can skip this step.
    • Determine School most appropriate for the spell that you have access to.
      • NOTE: If you are limited in your School choices then it should be noted that some schools DO overlap. An example would be the ability to use Restoration school to inflict harm on someone. However, as with all things in magic there is a balance. Evocation is superior when it comes to inflicting harm. As such whenever there is an alternative there will always be one that is better than the other.
    • Choose from Spell Modifiers and the School to construct the spell you desire.
      • NOTE: If your School has rules for something that is in Spell Modifiers then the School's rules take precedence over Spell Modifiers!
      • Keep track of Spell Difficulty AND Essence Cost!

Step 3

  • Rolling
    • Determine the Attribute that your Form casts with.
    • Determine the Skill that you are casting with.
    • Determine the Spell Difficulty.
      • NOTE: Spell Difficulty will usually be the higher of Resistance OR Spell Difficulty. Some items have it set as a difficulty equal to resistance. In that case the resistance is the difficulty for that component making it difficult to deal with highly resistant individuals.
    • Determine Essence Cost
      • Adjust Difficulty and Essence costs according to Casting Time if you need to cast it faster or have time to cast it slower.
    • Apply Form Benefits (Such as Familiars, Azure Circle, etc...)
    • Apply Bonuses to Rolls
      • Does the character have a spell in effect which enhances their Attribute they are rolling with? If so add the highest one in effect to it.
      • Does the character have a spell in effect which enhances the skill they are rolling with? If so add the highest one in effect to it.
      • Does the character have any equipment which enhances their attribute they are rolling with? If so add the highest one in effect to it.
      • Does the character have any equipment which enhances the skill they are rolling with? If so add +2d12 plus Superior Equipment Bonus. +1d12 for each additional item or retainer (You can only have as many retainers as your skill).
      • Does the character have an item with Augment: (Form in Use)? If so add +2d12 to the roll.
      • Does the character have an item with Augment: (School in Use)? If so add +2d12 to this roll.
    • Determine how much difficulty you want to add to your roll for Results Roll. Add this to Spell Difficulty
  • Roll! (Potency = Difficulty of Results Roll + Successes)
